New organic pads said to have several health and environmental benefits were donated to more than 1 800 girls at Alexandra High School.
A rapturous atmosphere at Alexandra High School welcomed the arrival of a new brand of organic pads that have several health and environmental benefits to the shores of Mzansi.
Alex High girls will be some of the first ones to use these new pads that are super absorbent, friendly to the environment as they are biodegradable and are a healthy substitution as they contain no fragrance enhancers, said Dr Vivian Mokome of the Vivian Mokome & George Sebulela Foundation, which is responsible for bringing the organic pads to the shores of Mzansi.
Speaking in an interview with Alex News at a welcome party at the Alexandra High School on October 26, Mokome said the pads, which are aptly named ‘diginity’, are super absorbent with no leakages, no thrush and no odour and can be worn all day. Mokome said the organic pads were a standard in developed countries and the foundation decided to introduce them in Mzansi because of their health benefits and the fact they are not harmful to the environment as they contain no chemicals.
Launched in March this year, Mokome said they design them for themselves and then take the samples to a manufacturer to produce them in accordance with their specifications and each pack contains 10 of them to be used approximately for a month. The more than 1 800 girls at Alex High each received a donation of pads. She said the donations were being made to various townships all over the country. “We appeal for more partners to come on board and help us realise our dream of reaching all the township schools in the country,” she said.
